He has… um… quite a personality. He has his fair share of fans, but there were also legions dancing in the streets last week when the word broke that he and WWL had parted ways. I’d guess that his overall approval rating was pretty low. (Then again, most people don’t seem to think a whole lot of ANYBODY doing sports over at WWL.)

I’ve never thought that he was particularly bad at his job (like a lot of people did.) In fact, I used to be one of his staunchest defenders. People on message boards tend to be WAY over the top in their criticism. I’ve always enjoyed Sportstalk (as long as there’s Saints “stuff” going on, that is.)

Kenny had surgery last summer, and while he was laid up, he passed some time over at Saintsreport. It quickly turned into quite a trainwreck, and in my humble opinion, Kenny made quite the ass of himself. Then again, it can be hard to resist being an ass sometimes when dealing with Message Board Guy.

He made himself quite a few fans for coming down from the mountaintop and hobnobbing with the commoners. Stunning how starstruck some people were over a local pseudo-celeb. On the other hand, he lost quite a few fans too, due to his complete lack of tolerance for his word not being taken as gospel 100% of the time. There were a handful of hissy fits, one very specific “holy shit, did you just actually air that dirty laundry on the internet???” moment, and then a sudden disappearance.

In the end, I still believe that Kenny is overall a nice guy. But it’s clear that he has a permanent hard on for himself. He’s a lot of fun as long as you’re throwing roses at his feet and are effusive in your praise. Otherwise? Not so much. And it doesn’t take much to cross that line.

At any rate, the official word is that Kenny resigned. Most people seem convinced that there’s a lot more to the story than that, and lots of people are assuming that it was actually a firing, and it was at the “request” of very specific people within the Saints’ organization, for very specific reasons. Everybody who knows for sure are keeping their fool mouths shut about it.

We poked some fun at him here last summer, and that stuff is still in the archives and all over Google.

Suffice to say that the logs started really hoppin’ around here last week, a few hours BEFORE the news broke that Kenny was no longer with WWL. And they’ve been hoppin’ ever since. I’ve drawn a few (pretty funny) conclusions about what the logs have been telling me, and while I could be mistaken, I’m pretty confident that I’m not.
