Here's my problem with your argument, Wang. Of the two positions, left tackle is more important than a 2nd tight end. By a long shot. The two tight end sets are working well, but Bushrod can't learn that position as well? If he can't, that makes me worry about him a little bit. Personally, I want the best left tackle playing left tackle. And Strief gave up 0 sacks this weekend against the OMGJETS defense. I'm not so sure Bushrod would have fared so well.

Of course Jamar was screaming for the ball. He had Harris posted on the low block and was going to take him to the rack. Unfortuantely, the point guard forgot that the proper entry pass on that setup is a bounce pass, so the posted-up player can keep his leverage.

Don't you guys watch any basketball?

Clearly Zach Strief would have reeled in that pass to Jamar Nesbit on 4th down yesterday. :covri:

That was the funniest thing all game for me. Jamar Nesbit (JAMAR NESBIT) waving his hand in the end zone to signal how open he thought he was cracked me the fuck up. I was pissed we missed the 4th down (although not for long - thanks Big Will), but I was still .

I don't really know what you're talking about, but if you give me a shirt, not even a jersey, just a shirt, with Hunt and 19 on the back, I'll wear it. XL, please, I'm a little big-boned, and can the first name be Mike?

I'm not arguing that Strief might very well be the best left tackle on the roster. He might be. Though I'm not sure he's significantly more proven than Bushrod at this point. They're both greener than would be ideal.

But don't be so quick to scoff at the role Strief has been filling, not as a "3rd TE" but as an extra blocker in 2 TE sets, when we don't have a second TE at the moment. You want Buck Ortega lining up opposite Shockey in those sets?

I didn't intend to insult your take on the situation, which I don't think is unreasonable.

But at the same time, I question the conclusion that the Saints are doing this in an effort to develop depth. In my opinion, it's more about patching holes due to injuries.

I mean, sure, they could just nix the 2-TE set until Dinkins is healthy. But it's been working pretty well with Strief, no? And it's not like Bushrod has been a disaster at left tackle (in my opinion, anyway, your mileage may vary.)

I just think you're not giving Bushrod his due is all. Reasonable people can disagree on that, of course.

But they are playing their best guy.
See. As was pointed out Strief is there best blocking TE and their best LT.

Two ways to protect your QB. #1 - Dont let him get hit. #2 Enable him to get the ball out before getting hit. Kinda the same thing but a bit different.

We have been going up against hard blitzing teams and having Strief on the line as a TE is going to protect Brees and the RB on those just as much as having him at LT. So if you move him to LT you leave a bigger hole at TE then keeping him at TE and leaving Bushrod at LT.

On the subject of Bushrod, as stated hes a rookie.
Does Sanchez have the best numbers in football? Hell no but they are calling him the wonder kid. Why does he get the nod as a damn fine producing rookie when Bushrod doesnt? Rookie = rookie regardless of position. They have a history of either getting better or getting worse. Does anyone think Bushrod is going to get worse?

Look, I'm not saying Brown is being unjustly excused. In fact, I've noted that Strief has appeared to outperform Brown during his frequent turns at replacing him in the lineup on the numerous occasions of his various owees.

And that's my point. Strief is not only battle-tested he's probably the best left tackle on the roster. Why, then, are the Saints taking a chance with an unproven player at one of the most important positions on the field? Because they can't afford to give up their awesome 3rd tight end? Really?

I'm not saying it's a bad idea to dump Brown but not playing your best guy in order to develop depth is. But I think that's what they're doing.

As to the speciousness of the 4 sacks argument, you're right. But I really have seen Bushrod get beat up a lot out there and I felt like I needed to throw a number out there in order to talk about it. Lazy, I know. Can't say it won't happen again, though.
